Two of our first hens are Sonic and Tails. They are Barred Plymouth Rocks. This breed is known for their striking plumage, friendly nature, good egg production, and is one of the oldest breeds (dating back to the mid-1800's). Sonic & Tails are the first ones out of the coop to greet us every morning. Unlike some of the other gals, these ladies take their cuddles very seriously. We happily oblige as happy chickens make great eggs!
Goldilocks, Malificent, and Laurie are our Golden Comets. Goldilocks and Malificent were the first to start laying eggs out of all of our hens. Hands down they are our best layers giving us large brown eggs nearly EVERY DAY. While they were a tad fickle in the beginning, they have become truly sweet girls and a crucial part of our flock. Laurie is part of flock 4 and isn't yet laying eggs, but given her breed, we anticipate she will be an tremendous producer.
Meet Bunny, our lone Easter Egger! She is one of our artistic hens as she gives us beautiful green eggs. While not as prolific of a layer as some of our other ladies, her eggs are some of the prettiest.
Garfield, Garlic, Parmesan, and Kit are our four Ameracaunas. Are their names a little cheeky? Yes, but then again so are they! These girls have a spicy streak in them but in the best way possible. Each of them lay pastel blue eggs and goodness do not disturb their work of you will hear about it!
Chili, Reba, and Dolly are our Australorps. They are some of our other great producers, giving us each about 5 large brown eggs a week. They are friendly, chill, and get along with just about everyone.
Meet Friendly and Raptor, our two Sapphire Gems. We were immediately attracted to their color. Their silver feathers are gorgeous. Unlike some of our other hens, these ladies are not very chatty, however, Friendly takes the title of the most cuddly of the entire flock. Their eggs are a light brown and we get several each week.
Sasha is our one Black Jersey Giant. As part of flock 4, she's not yet laying eggs. Recognized as an official breed in 1922, the Jersey Giant comes in both black and white varieties and is (obviously) a large breed. Some birds of prey mistake Jersey Giants for crows which offers an added level of protection for the flock!
If you could have a supermodel of the chicken world, it would be the Silver Laced Wyandotte. Carol (also part of flock 4) is not yet laying eggs. Her breed's trademark feathers are growing in and we can't wait to see how beautiful she will be at maturity. While the breed doesn't lay the most eggs, their eye catching colors more than make up for any lack of egg production!
Rosita is our Gold Laced Wyandotte. As with her "sister" Carol, her feathers will be absolutely stunning once they completely fill in. We look forward to getting to know her better as she continues to grow.
Michone is our Cinnamon Queen. Cinnamon Queens are a hybrid breed and newer to the scene than some of our other breeds. Michone is part of flock 4 so no eggs yet!
Our tiny, sweetest hen, is Judith, our Bielefelder. If you've ever thought about having a "pet" chicken, look into this breed! The Bielefelder is a rare, heritage breed who is SUPER friendly, docile, and a good egg producer. Also part of flock 4, Judith isn't yet laying eggs, which is just fine, as she is still tiny and wonderful to cuddle.
